The political events of the past few days have been something of a watershed, and we can only hope that our local leaders will heed the message sent out by voters, and not try to spoon out the mixture as before to our ailing Boston.
It may be a vain hope, with bleak threats such as the possibility of near round-the-clock drinking in the Assembly Rooms lurking just around the corner for starters.
But on a brighter note, we hear that a deal may have been done to rid Boston of the burden of the Princess Royal Sports Arena – although that was tried before and failed.
Whatever, it’s appropriate at this point to recognise another watershed of a more personal nature.
For some time now, the production of this blog has become less of a pleasure and more of a burden.
The reasons are purely related to the health of the author, who has decided that such a memorable political junction in the life of the town is an appropriate time to call it a day.
Over the past seven years, we have made quite a number of friends via Boston Eye – although we are sure that they are greatly outnumbered by our enemies.
To those friends we say thanks.
We would also like to express our gratitude to the Boston Bypass Independents, without whose glittering incompetence, this blog would have foundered long ago.
And whilst we figured that they would be a hard act to follow, we didn’t bargain on the Conservative group which took their place, and who – against the odds – succeeded in being even more selfish, incompetent, self-serving and contemptuous of the people who elected them than did their predecessors.
Surely, politics wasn’t meant to be like this.
Anyway, now it’s some other commentator’s problem.

  1. Talking of the Assemby Rooms, I noticed yesterday (Tue 7th) a faint but constant alarm warbling and the front door open...too little and too late I thought!

You mean the new mega-club that we were told was not on the cards but which has five bar serveries, a stage, audio control booth, lounge et al reflected on the Planning Application floor plans?

Lies, lies and damn lies from word go......

  3. Many thanks for all your hard work over the last seven years, bringing to our attention the truth regarding the many ludicrous antics of our town council. Your blog will be greatly missed by those of us who believe in freedom of information and truth.

Sad news indeed for Boston and even sadder for those of us who have followed your erudite and informed comment over the years. I should imagine some in Worst street might be breaking open the Champaign, typical to form. Well done Boston Eye - you have been an absolute God send for many of us - the essential companion to our wake-up morning cuppa.

I for one, have often thought of the amount of work you must have daily put into this blog - I stand in awe. Thank you - and I am sure I speak on behalf of all of my fellow followers.

Don't suppose we might tempt you into at least maintaining the Friday Miscellany???

  5. This was sad news indeed! I may not always have agreed with your observations, but accept that your `daily examination` of local politicians served the people of Boston well.

Amazing (and complimentary) how few of the `Ruling Group of the time`, whether BBI or TORY, dishonestly claim that they `never bother to read the Blog` MMMMMM!

A magnificent Job, you will be missed, Thank You so much. Brian Rush.

For those still clinging on to power in the corridors of Worst Street - don't for one moment believe that the spirit of Boston Eye is dead.

In rugby terms - use it or lose it. Therefore Be prepared for someone to pick up the ball..... and be prepared to take you on.

And, Worst Street, if you thought this most recent County Election was a mere mishap - just wait for what the future has in store for you all ....

Meanwhile, I am still trying to find somewhere to park in Boston....
